Rosewood, like many species of wood, has a variety of sub-species around the world. One of the most prized species is the Huang Hua Li (Yellow Rosewood) used for the Chinese Emperors in the ancient dynasty period. Other prized species accessible to consumer nowadays originate from mainly Africa and South East Asia.

Rosewood Collection only specialises in one species of rosewood and that originate in South East Asia. The botanical name for Rosewood is Pterocarpus Macrocarpus Kurz. It is native to mid-elevation tropical monsoon forests of South East Asia in Vietnam, Myanmar and Thailand.

Rosewood is an extremely slow growing species, usually with a long straight trunk.

Rosewood is hard, heavy, durable, and good resistant to termites, insects and are highly resistant to decay of wood when properly dried. At Rosewood Collection, our rosewood are all stored in Singapore and has been completely dried naturally over more than 10 years. The wood produce a fragrant smell and can persists for a long period of time. Certain pieces might have an unusual aroma which is the effect of the natural environment where the rosewood grows in . Wood from the tree is used in premium furniture, guitar bodies and fret boards, exotic veneers, wood carvings, luxury parquet flooring, boats and skis.
